The Maison du Ranc represents an important chapter in the history of the municipalities of Lamastre and Désaignes. Following the Allied landings in Normandy on 6 June 1944, Lamastre and Désaignes were liberated by the Resistance.
Lamastre Hospital, which treated Resistance fighters wounded during the battles of the Liberation, was overwhelmed. In 1944, Le Ranc therefore became an annex of the hospital, receiving and treating wounded members of the Maquis.
Like many farms in the region, Le Ranc had already provided refuge for various refugees.
